Profile of the itinerary
Description of the route
This great route runs for over a thousand kilometres along the banks of the longest river in the Iberian Peninsula, the Tajo. It is included in the programme of natural trails of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and the Environment. From the source of the river in the Montes Universales in the Sierra de Albarracín to the Portuguese border at Cedillo, the Tajo Natural Trail explores endless landscapes and a large part of the history and culture of inland Iberia. The trail crosses the Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve from east to west, entering it at Higuera de Albalat and leaving it at Serradilla towards the Tajo Internacional Biosphere Reserve and the border with Portugal.
It is a great route to follow either on foot or on MTB in three stages to get to know intimately the fauna and landscape of the Reserve:
- Higuera de Albalat – Serrejón 21,3 km
- Serrejón – Villarreal de San Carlos 37,1 km
- Villarreal de San Carlos – Serradilla 12,6 km
